The Role
As we scale across The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and the UK, our Field Operations team ensures every system is installed safely, on time, and with outstanding customer service. In addition to our own internal team in The Netherlands, we will provide second line support to external partners supporting our field operations expansion in the other countries.
As a (Junior) Field Engineer, you’ll be part of the Field Operations team at our Headquarters in Utrecht, responsible for rolling out and supporting our battery energy storage systems and energy management systems across The Netherlands Belgium, Germany and the UK.
You’ll support the installation, commissioning, inspection and maintenance of our products at customer sites. You’ll work with experienced engineers and receive training on iwell system technology and field procedures. You‘ll collaborate with iwell Service Coordinators, Technical Project Managers, and R&D engineers to deliver exceptional quality and service.
This is a hands-on role suited for someone technical, safety-focused and keen to develop a career in renewable energy. You’ll be at the heart of our mission, translating technical plans into real-world results, that make businesses more sustainable and energy independent.
The Team
Our team works closely with a number of dedicated external installation partners during installations. During these installations, everyone has their own tasks, expertise, and experience, but you can become the on-site expert. Once you have gained the right experience and knowledge, you’ll be able to take the lead as the expert during smaller installations, with the opportunity to grow towards managing large-scale installations as well.
The installation sector for Energy Storage Systems in the Netherlands is still relatively small but rapidly growing. You can be part of this expanding segment, gaining valuable experience, learning new skills, and working with innovative technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Support the installation and commissioning of new site EMS, PCS, BESS, inverters, switchboards and any other related monitoring systems
Support other Field or Lead Installation Engineers to diagnose and resolve minor and major faults, occasionally in collaboration with customer operations, TPM, and R&D
Support the completion of onsite safety checks and risk assessments before each job
Scheduled preventive maintenance and first-line troubleshooting on existing systems
Replace components such as fuses, cabling, modules and communication hardware
Conduct field testing, document findings and upload reports via NetSuite mobile app
Prepare service and field efficiency reports, documenting findings with any insights
Assemble site EMS and control boxes for planned installations in the iwell warehouse
Maintain tools, PPE and all other equipment according to HSSE procedures
Communicate clearly with customers onsite and represent iwell professionally
Participate in paid standby and on-call service rotation 1 in 6 weeks (after training)
Requirements
MBO level 3/4 in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Installation Technology
Understanding of AC/DC power, electrical components or renewable energy systems
Valid VCA Basic Safety (B-VCA) or willingness to achieve it quickly
Valid driving licence (B) for The Netherlands
Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow HSSE procedures
You know how to carry out your installations and work in accordance with Dutch standards and installation regulations
Able to work at customer sites across NL and occasionally in BE/DE
Fluency in English is required, Dutch preferred, and other languages appreciated
You are a self-starter who can set independent goals and meet clear deadlines
You are hands-on, concrete, eager, you take ownership and make things happen
Nice to have
Experience in field service, solar, UPS, EV charging or industrial installations
NEN 3140 VP certification (or willingness to obtain)
Basic networking/IT troubleshooting skills
Previous technical internship or practical work experience

Fully certified on all iwell systems, safety, and installation processes
Able to independently execute maintenance jobs and simple repairs
